Round 3 of the 2019 SA MX National Championship was held at BORC MX in Bloemfontein on Saturday, 25 May.
Anthony arrived back from California 2 weeks ago where he trained hard on and off the bike at some of the best facilities in the world. The trip was a dream for Anthony and a great investment for himself to learn and improve. Anthony hopes to go back next year for more racing and continue the challenge. Since Anthony arrived back he went straight into a regional race at Zone 7 last weekend coming away with 4 out of 4 race wins.
Qualifying, as always Bloemfontein provided a well groomed track that was bound to be rough and muddy all day. Anthony set out to put in a few hot laps and top the time chart all qualifying until another rider snatched the top spot by 0.200 of a second. This saw Ant finish in 2nd for qualifying.
Heat 1, Ant got a great jump out the gates but was boxed in half way down the start straight causing him to play it safe and get out the first turn out of the top 10. It was going to be a war scene for Ant making his way through the field. Anthony rode his heart out making big moves to find his way to 2nd place and unfortunately running out of time to challenge for the lead. Solid, amazing finish!
Heat 2, another tough start for Ant coming out in 6th place from the start. Once again Ant rode smart and chose his passes carefully to stay off the ground and out of the way of the madness going on. On lap 1 Ant was 20 seconds down from the lead. He charged every lap and got into 2nd with three laps to go. Closing the gap by 2-3 seconds every lap, he caught the lead rider on the last lap and tried everything but the rider was blocking him and defending. Ant gave it his all and narrowly crossed the line with less than a second between him and the lead rider. Great 2nd place finish with good points for the championship!
Anthony leaves Round 3 of the SA Nationals extending the championship points lead in the premier MX2 class! He is excited and ready to take on Round 4 in Johannesburg on July 6th.
Overall MX2 Result: 2 – 2 = 2nd overall
