Round 2 of the 2019 SA MX National Championship was held at Zone 7 Raceway in Cape Town on Saturday, 30 March.
Anthony has got the 2019 season off to a great start winning three regional events in Cape Town in the MX1 and MX2 class as well as securing a solid 2nd place MX2 result at Round 1 of the SA Nationals in Port Elizabeth. With Zone 7 Raceway being his home track, he came into this round with high expectations backed by hours of hard training on the track. He is extremely happy and content with being apart of the Tintswalo Yamaha Racing Team for 2019.
Due to the motorsport federation changing the class rules and order for the 2019 season, Anthony and the top runners in SA have chosen to compete in the premier MX2 class at nationals. The MX2 Championship is going to be a well deserved, hard fought race to the end.
Qualifying, 15 minutes to test the track and set your fastest lap time which will determine your gate pick. Anthony made sure to make his way to the front of the field and set faster lap times every lap ending with the best time by more than a second. Great confidence boost going into heat 1.
Heat 1, Anthony was off to a good start but got funnelled in towards the first turn leaving him down in 6th place. He made quick moves on the first lap to jump into 3rd. Anthony was looking for passing opportunities right away and found lines that shocked riders with Anthony flying by and snatching the lead at the end of the fourth lap. Head down and consistent lap times, Anthony raced away to win by 15 seconds!
Heat 2, Anthony got out the gates smooth and was into 3rd place in turn one. He played it safe and settled in third and started making moves into 2nd after lap two. He then went on to challenge the leader and after roughly four laps Anthony made a spectacular pass for the lead. He never looked back and rode another faultless race to win by a big margin. Anthony finished the race feeling so comfortable and like he could’ve raced for another 20 minutes. All the hours of training and bike setup has Anthony’ loving every second on his 2019 Yamaha YZ250F!
Anthony leaves Round 2 of the SA Nationals with the championship points lead and looks forward to the next round taking place in Bloemfontein on the 25th of May.
